Samsung Android 4.2 Updates Continue Missing Flagship Devices

Samsung continues to roll out Android 4.2 Jelly Bean updates to devices not called Samsung Galaxy Note 2 or Samsung Galaxy S3, a trend that, despite Samsung’s lack of confirmation, points to the devices both getting Android 4.3 Jelly Bean instead of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 owners are going to have to wait for their next big Android update. While Samsung refuses to reveal its plans, roll outs and carrier information suggests that the two flagships will be skipping Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

The Galaxy S3 Android 4.2 update is unlikely to roll out.

Australian carrier Telstra revealed that Samsung would be skipping Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for Android 4.3, confirming rumors that suggested such. And last week, we saw Galaxy S3 carrier Telekom confirm that its Galaxy S3 would be skipping Android 4.2 for Android 4.3, a sign that the Galaxy S3 is heading to greener pastures.

Further proof has come with Samsung’s continuing Android 4.2 Jelly Bean roll outs which have hit a number of less-adopted devices. The latest according to SamMobile, the Galaxy Note 8.0 3G in Germany, which is now receiving its Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update. Samsung in the past has typically updated its flagship devices first and then moved to lesser devices. The Galaxy Note 8.0 is a big name devices but isn’t as widely adopted as Samsung’s Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2.

The Galaxy Note 2 is expected to get Android 4.3 not Android 4.2.

The update comes a week after the LTE version of the Galaxy Note 8.0 received its update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, Google’s previous version of Android software. The latest version, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, is expected to touch down for devices like the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 later in the year.

Thus far, we haven’t heard about any specific time lines for the updates but updates typically roll out a few months after Nexus devices get their updates. That could mean roll outs in September, October or later.
